    UPENET (UPGRADE European NETwork)

Created in April 2004 and promoted by CEPIS (Council of European Professional Informatics Societies), UPENET (UPGRADE European NETwork) is the network of publications, paper or electronic, from CEPIS member societies.

With UPGRADE as its anchor point, the main purpose of UPENET is to make available to the Information and Comunication Technology comunities (professional, academic, business, government), mainly in Europe but also worldwide, the wealth of knowledge and experience accumulated by CEPIS member societies' publications. To this end UPGRADE republishes articles from these publications,
while these can republish, in their own languages, articles published in UPGRADE and in any of the syndicated publications.

Structure of Contents and Editorial Policy (modified as of February 4th, 2008)

Our contents and our editorial policy stem from the principal objective of UPGRADE: to provide its readers with high quality contents, ranging from practical business experiences to academic research. Our aim is that the papers published in UPGRADE combine a high technical standard with a good legibility and usefulness of the information.

To this end we have established a structure for our contents, organised in several sections, with a given set of procedures for each one:

    • Editorial: piece written by the publisher and/or the Editorial Team on a topic of interest; it expresses an official view about the topic being addressed.
    • Monograph: it contains several articles selected by our guest-editors, covering a given ICT subject proposed by the Editorial Team of UPGRADE and approved by the Editorial Boards of UPGRADE and Novática. The Editorial Team selects the guest editors, who are recognised experts in the field. The guest editors further define the concept and are able, through their reputation, to motivate first-class authors to submit papers on different facets of the topic, papers that they peer-review and approve.
All the papers in the Monograph may be ultimately revised by the Editorial Team of UPGRADE and the Editorial Boards of UPGRADE and Novática, who can read and comment on them in order to ensure their relevance to our readers, which may lead the author to rework the paper. Our English Language Editors, IT professionals with English as a first language, read and revise the papers, ensuring the texts are clear and understandable. Before publishing, the papers can be submitted to the authors for final approval, giving them a chance for last-moment corrections and amendments.
    • UPENET: inaugurated in our April 2004 issue, in this section we republish, in English, articles from the publications that make part of the UPGRADE European NETwork. These articles are selected by the editors of these publications.

The Editorial Team takes care of the final edition of all the papers and pieces of information published in UPGRADE.
